Dylan Graham’s recent work centers around the historic issues of colonialism, immigration and forced migration.
It is a visual portrayal of the aftereffects and consequences of these legacies of events. During an
artist-in-residence period in New York in 2004 he began work on his current series of paper cutouts; with such
titles as Armada, The Passage and The Old Lie (dulce et decorum est pro patria mori). Dylan has busied himself
with various mediums over the years, however, installations and drawings are the backbone of his work.

These monochromatic two-dimensional works are meticulously made by an obsessive hand. The depictions of
dramatic global events are seen from both a personal perspective as well as from within a historic-cultural
context. The imagery therein has been reduced to a minimum and then the whole is decoratively embellished
taking inspiration from folk traditions around the world. The focus ranging from large scale to minute
detail is also apparent in his installations and sculptures, where an array of objects are brought together
 to form a complex environment.

Dylan Graham was nominated for the 2005 Orange Art Award and was recently commissioned to create a site
specific outdoor installation for the Den Haag Sculpture exhibition earlier this year. Upcoming solo
exhibitions in his 2006 program include Rare Gallery in New York and the Vleeshal in Middelburg.

Gallery hours are :
